cleansing & balancing the heart chakra

softness and protection can live in the same body
written by dawn

You can be loving without abandoning yourself.

The heart chakra is connected to love, compassion, grief, forgiveness, tenderness, and connection.

When this energy feels tender or guarded, you may feel closed off, overly giving, resentful, heartbroken, or afraid to receive. This mudra and mantra practice creates a gentle space for the heart without forcing it to open before it is ready.

This is a practice for meeting the heart with honesty, not pressure.

when it helps

This helps when I:
• have a guarded or heavy heart
• am grieving or tender
• have been giving too much
• want to receive but feel afraid
• am feeling conflicted, when forgiveness feels complicated
• need to remember that softness does not mean self-abandonment

how i do it

I sit comfortably and let my shoulders soften.

I touch the tip of each thumb to the tip of each index finger.

I rest my left hand on my knee and place my right hand over the center of my chest. If I need more comfort, I place both hands over my heart instead.

I breathe gently into the space beneath my hands.

Then I repeat softly or silently: yam (pronounced: yum)

I do not demand that my heart open.

I simply let it know I am here.

If grief rises, I let it be honored. If warmth rises, I let it be received. If nothing rises, I let the stillness be part of the practice.
