chakras, mudras, and mantras

a simple starting point for working with your energy
written by dawn

You don’t have to understand everything to begin, you just have to notice what you feel.

Chakras, mudras, and mantras are simple tools for working with your body, breath, and energy.

You don’t need to believe anything specific or understand a complex system to use them. At their core, these practices are about awareness: how you feel, how you breathe, and how energy moves through your body.

This page is a gentle overview to help you understand the basics before exploring individual practices.

when it helps

Start with one:

  • one chakra
  • one breath
  • one sound

Stay for a few moments.

Notice what changes.

That’s the practice.

gentle note

These practices are for awareness and support. They are not a replacement for medical or mental health care.

If anything feels overwhelming:

  • open your eyes
  • feel your body
  • touch something solid
  • take a break

Slow is allowed here.

how i do it

I start by keeping things simple.

I don’t try to open everything or fix anything.

I choose one area of my body, one breath, one sound, or one small practice, and let my body respond instead of forcing a result.

Over time, I begin to notice patterns:

  • where I hold tension
  • where I feel open
  • where I feel disconnected

That’s enough to begin.

chakras

Chakras are energy centers within the body.

Each one is connected to different aspects of your physical, emotional, and mental experience—things like safety, creativity, confidence, love, expression, and intuition.

You can think of them as points of awareness in the body:

  • base of the spine
  • lower belly
  • upper abdomen
  • chest
  • throat
  • between the eyes
  • top of the head

When you bring attention to these areas, you may notice:

  • tension
  • warmth
  • emotion
  • or nothing at all

All of that is part of the practice.

mudras

Mudras are simple hand positions.

They give your body a physical shape to hold while your breath and awareness settle.

They don’t need to be perfect. They just:

  • focus attention
  • create stillness
  • support the nervous system

Even resting your hands on your body can function as a mudra.

mantras

Mantras are sounds or repeated words.

They help:

  • focus the mind
  • create vibration in the body
  • support breath and rhythm

You can say them:

  • out loud
  • softly
  • silently
  • or replace them with a hum or sigh

They are not about saying something “correctly.”

They are about creating a steady point of return.
